My Opinion:
This books starts out with a bang...literally. Katie DeMalo is an attorney who is involved in a car accident that lands her overnight in the hospital. While there she thinks she sees a body being loaded into a car during the middle of the night. She isn't sure if this is real or just a bad dream brought on by her accident and the drugs she was taking. Well she doesn't have time to worry about it for long. She is quickly involved in an apparent suicide that seems more like murder. As she investigates this new case she crosses paths with Richard Carrol who is the medical examiner who is assigned to the case. He takes more than a passing interest as he comes to appreciate Katie as a professional and as a friend. As the case rolls along Richard finds that he is more and more interested in Katie who seems to be hiding something from him. He doesn't want to push her to far because she is still trying to put the untimely death of her husband behind her. As he begins to suspect a famous doctor who happens to be practicing at the hospital where Katie stayed the night. As it happens Katie is one of his patients. These things all tie in together and come to a suspense filled climax when Katie needs surgery and guess who's the surgeon?
This another good straight forward suspense thriller by Ms. Higgins Clark. I enjoy her writing style very much and find her stories easy to read and interesting. She doesn't lose track of the purpose of her story or the direction she is leading us as we put together the clues.
Buy It or Borrow It: I would borrow it from a friend or library. Since this came from Deseret Industries it only cost fifty cents I bought it but I wouldn't pay full price which is probably pretty cheap but at $7.99 new I think it is a bit over priced. After all it is really a relatively short book.
